All components used in construction will eventually need to comply with a relevant European Standard prepared under mandate issued under the EU Construction Products Directive (89/106EEC). Many of these standards are already written and some have indeed been fully operational for some years. Numerous standards fall under the umbrella group of 'Glass in Building'. They cover a broad spectrum from 'basic' flat glass through safety glasses to the use of glass in the manufacture of sealed insulating glass (double glazing) units. Although some will apply only to a relatively small number of manufacturers, others such as EN1279 and EN12150 are relevant to many hundreds or even thousands of manufacturers. |

Southport Glass is not only the latest company to become an official registered label user with the British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC), the body responsible for the Energy Ratings within the UK. Having undergone the BFRC's assessment procedure for each product. Southport Glass has also attained EN1279 and are monitored for Quality Assurance through CENSolutions Ltd, who are an independent consultancy and testing company specialising in working with clients in the glass, windows and double glazing industries. CENSolutions Ltd. is an active member of the industry trade body - the Glass & Glazing Federation (GCF) and have recently launched an accredited Quality Mark - the CMS Mark. This mark is a credible alternative to quality marks and of which Southport Glass has been awarded. |
